Cash for Clunkers Scheme announced

Suffice to say, the announcement from Julia Gillard over the weekend could be good news for anyone looking to trade-in their old banger for a new fuel-efficient vehicle. I can see how this looks like a good idea at first glance, but I think it could cause some problems. Where is each $2000 coming from? There are a lot of pre 1995 cars out on the road, so this scheme will be very expensive. Also, Im sure there are some cars out there that are from after Jan 1995 that are in worse state then some before that date, producing more carbon emmissions but not worthy of the rebate. Will they take these into consideration?
If Julia Gillard is elected, I wonder if she’ll even go through with this.
