It’s like a jungle, sometimes it makes me wonder. How I keep from going under…
Don’t normally comment on car advertising but probably should do a little bit more because there are some weird and wonderful ads out there. Some car ads have been shockers but some are very memorable. Other just hit the spot for some reason. Probably not surprising when you consider the amount of money car makers pour into TV adverts, there’s going to be plenty of notable hits and misses.

News has just come through that Volvo is finally going Chinese after months of speculation.
It has just been formally announced that the other iconic Swedish car maker has been sold by its current owner- The Ford Motor Company- to Geely of China, but at a huge loss to Ford.
They purchased it twenty years ago for nearly ten billion dollars, but will collect just over four billion dollars from Geely, and they have suffered some huge losses in the interim.

After several delays, the ‘on again, off again’ confusion over the future of Swedish car maker Saab has finally been determined, or has it?
Last month General Motors unequivocably announced the demise of Saab. There was horrified reaction to this and some desperate last ditch offers were put into the melting pot in a bid to reverse GM’s decision.
GM relented and re-considered.

Four consortia have made last ditch bids for Saab after General Motors announced its intention to shut down the Swedish car company.
Amongst those involved in trying to save Saab is Bernie Ecclestone, the Formula 1 guru who said that Saab is ‘ a good brand that has probably been neglected by its current owners”. It has not been revealed how much he is personally offering for the purchase.

After GM’s about turn by withdrawing from the sale of their German offshoot Opel, and their British brand Vauxhall just three weeks ago, now comes the surprising news that they will continue to own their Swedish carmaker Saab.

The on again/off again saga on the sale of German car maker Opel and its British counterpart Vauxhall has added a further twist today when giant US carmaker announced that it will not now sell its European offshoots.
It was finally announced in September, after months of speculation that GM would sell 55 percent of Vauxhall and Opel to a Canadian led consortium.

It just ain’t getting any better at cash-strapped Holden.
After losing an export order for Pontiac vehicles earlier in the year and putting their Elizabeth, SA workers on a one week on, one week off roster, a form of job sharing, Holden have announced an annual loss of some $70mil. for the ’08/’09 financial year, with a drop of $300mil. in total revenues.
